Leicester Mercury-inappropriate? Obtain a free personal trainer

 Hundreds of people to obtain personal health trainers to help lose weight and stop smoking.

Primary care trust (PCT) NHS Leicester City is spending nearly £ 250,000 on the system, because it is so concerned about the health of people in some parts of the city.


Six people were recruited and trained to execute programs, personal trainer in Belgrave, St. Peter, St. Matthew, Eyres Monsell, saffron Lane, new parks, Beaumont Leys, Braunstone.


Ivan Browne, consultant in public health with the PCT, said: "it's all about trying to get people to think about health.


"We want teachers to the most vulnerable people for their support.


"The trainers are from the community and have a true understanding of some of the problems of the people and how they can best help.


"For example, if there is someone who wants to give up smoking, drinking alcohol and take more exercise trainers will be able to help them priorities where to start."


Mr Brown said that coaches brought to improve health in disadvantaged communities where smoking rates, and the presence of conditions such as diabetes, tend to be higher.


GPs can refer their patients, teachers, or people can ask for help themselves.


Coaches help individuals create personal health plans.


Not yet drawn up plans 37 people, and helped about 300 more information on medical services.


Jagruti Bhatt, 23, Belgrave, is one of the teachers and now helps people in her own community, new parks and saffron Lane estate.


She said: "the language is the real barriers in Belgrave, and the ability to speak Gujarati and helps the Hindu.


"People are interested in gave up smoking, healthy food and be more active.


"A lot of people what to do, but it's hard to make the first move, which I'm able to help them know."


The overall system is running a private company, Parkwood health care.


Victoria West, health coach services Coordinator for the company, said: "each user will have about six sessions, but it is flexible and we also provide telephone support between sessions."


Coaches are visiting the community groups in their area to tell people about the service.
